Instructions for grant applications

  • The Birgit and Gad Rausing Foundation is an independent, private foundation that is entirely separate from universities and higher education institutions. The foundation’s purpose is to promote advanced Swedish scientific research within the humanities, preferably within archaeology, history, art history, comparative literature, and linguistics, as well as auxiliary sciences to these subjects, in Sweden and abroad.

  • Grants are paid in the form of scholarships. Expenses for salary as well as social and administrative fees are not covered.

  • Grants are not awarded for studies or courses at universities and higher education institutions. Furthermore, the foundation does not award grants solely for printing (and related costs) or for conference travel, workshops, and costs associated with these.

  • Grant recipients can be individuals, research groups, institutions, or similar.

  • The grant recipient is obliged to submit a report on the project results, including a financial account, to the foundation as soon as possible after the project has been completed. If the project runs over several years, an interim report must be submitted no later than one year after the project start. Any changes to the project’s focus or time schedule must also be communicated to the foundation’s office without delay.

  • Funds that have not been used for their intended purpose will be reclaimed by the foundation, as will funds for which a financial account has not been provided.

  • The final application date is the last weekday in August. For the exact date, please refer to the application system.

  • Notification of awarded grants is provided via email in December each year.

Good luck with your application.
